Most of what is on the internet now about John Cutler is from the book, "A Cutler memorial and genealogical history : containing the..." which can be found on the internet (see under Sources below.) On page 315, the author indicates that he understood from a quote from Rev. Abner Morse that John Cutler was originally from Sprauston [Sprowston], a suburb of Norwich from Norfolk County. In following up on that information, the author engaged professional help in England to try to establish John Cutler in Norfolk County, but to no avail. We only know with certainty that he appears in Hingham in 1637 where he received land, and died shortly thereafter in February 1637/8, leaving behind a large family quite destitute. It appears that the sons were cared for by others, and his wife remained a widow for some 12 years. She eventually married Thomas Hewitt of Hingham.

John is mentioned in the book, "History of the town of Hingham, Massachusetts.." in volume I, with a paragraph on page 149. This source places John in Hingham a little earlier than the Cutler memorial, as early as 1635.
