  • Notes
    •      Eli Ray Morris was born 19 Jul 1892 to James Newberry and Harriett  Louisa Elliott at Rosette, Utah,USA.He was
the sixth child.  On Sept. 1892 his father, James N. Morris blessed him and he was baptised by his father and con-
      fermed on July 7 1900.
He went to school at the Rosette School for the following eight years.  Each day he had two miles to walk to
school.  His Mother died when he was 8 years old.  When he was twelve years old he had to stop school in the
middle of April and take his fathers sheep out in the Mountains where he would tend them all spring and summer.
Sometimes two weeks would elaps before he would see anyone.  His sisters were good to send him books to
read so he early became aquanted with Shakespear, the Holy Bible, Dickens and other good books.  When he
graduated from the grade school he had been out with the sheep helping lamb. His teacher,Lorenze Larson,
suggested for him to come and take it at night.  It took all night and he passed with 92% grade.  He stayed helping
with the sheep  until he was nineteen  when he leased the sheep.  When Ray was 13  he had spotted fever and was unconscious for about two weeks.  It was his father  who would sit up at nights and take care of him.   When he was
16 he went for three years to the Brightam Young college at Logan, Utah.  His father died at this time (16 Feb 1913) ), so he wasn't able to go to school any more.  Before his father died he had leased the sheep to Ray.  That winter the
dreaded foot and mouth disease broke out.  It came to Utah from Mexico.  Ray lost about Half of his sheep and the
      rest were mostly crippled

Ray married Tina Kunzler Dec. 9 1914 in the Salt Lake Temple.  He built a nice home in some ceder trees on a
piece of land his father had.  They had three Children,  Seletta Rae, LeGrandElliott, and Royal Harold Morris.
Ray and Tina worked hard to get out of debt and educate and send trheir children on missions. They milked cows
and sold the cream to do this.  Ray was alway active in church callings.  He was ward Clark before he was married,
Later M.I. A. Preeident tor several years. Dec 7 1927 was caller on a six month mission to the Western Mission.  He
was 2nd councler  in Bishoprick.  Ray fall from a wagan of hay and broke his backand four ribs. and was in the
      Tremonton Hospilal for four months.
Ray did a lot of genealogy.  He served three Stake missions, after that he was set apart to serve  as 2nd counse-
ler to the Stake President  Alma W. King for 10 years and was released in the fall of 1958.  In Aprijl 4 1963 Ray and
Tina together they were called to the North Central States Mission for two years  and labored in Forsythe, Montana
and So. Dakota.  They both served another Stake mission for 16 months.  On 8 Jan 1968 Pre. David O. MKay called
them on a nother two year Mission to the Western States to Denver Colo. It was almost 40 years to the day he had arrived there on his first mission.  Ray was now past his 80 th birthday.  The winters were to bad in Rosette so they
decided to go to St. George for the winters and do temple work.  They bought a little hom in Washington .In summers
the returned to Rosette and raised a large vegetable garden and beautiful flowers.  Ray died 14 Oct 1940 because
of an anresm in his abdomen ruptured while at his brothers funreal in Idaho Falls, Idaho and buried In Park Valley,ut.
